Single Super Phosphate Fertilizer
manufacturing plant is basically conversion of
insoluble P2O5 to Soluble P2O5 by chemical reaction between phosphate ore and dilute sulphuric acid in definite proportion.
The Granulation SSP is manufactured with the reaction of Sulphuric acid with finely ground rock phosphate. The rock phosphate reacts very quickly in the beginning but the reaction slows down as the time passes. The reaction mixture is kept in enclosed/ controlled conditions for about half an hour. The green super so formed is stored in heaps where the remaining reaction proceeds. The rate of the reaction and the extent of completion depend on the quality and the origin of the rock phosphate. Generally the reaction is commercially complete from 4 days to 20 days. The reaction generates silicon tetra Fluoride gas which is scrubbed with water in conventional and Venturi scrubbers. The hydrofluoric Silicic acid and silica so generated are recycled back to the Reactor to dilute the sulphuric acid resulting in zero fluent system.
