Boma Africa Heritage deals with assorted African handmade arts & crafts made from locally available
raw materials in Kenya, East Africa. ‘Boma’ means ‘a form of fortified villages or camps’ in Swahili. With a high rate of poverty and unemployment in Kenya especially among those infected and
affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic, the mentally and physically handicapped, Boma Africa Heritage
has embarked on working with these women groups and youth workshops alongside those living
below the poverty line to assist improve their socio-economic status by marketing their products both
locally and internationally. In doing so, Boma Africa Heritage provides employment and the proceeds earned by these craftsmen
and women helps them cater for their basic needs including housing, medical aid, food, shelter and
adult education for adults who are blind and physically disabled and who would otherwise have virtually had no chance of securing employment in the mainstream labor market.
