The SCR is used to switch ON and OFF the appropriate connections to the Variable Transformers as decided by the Phase Computer and instructed by the SCR Controller. The SCR Controller circuit is controlled by a Phase Computer – one for each phase on a 3 Phase PropSava System. The Phase Computer receives data from a variety of PropSava measuring systems to identify the values of incoming voltage; and references these values against the User selected output voltage. The Phase Computer then calculates the voltage change needed and selects the appropriate winding (s) on the Variable Transformer that will produce the required reduction or increase in voltage. At this point, data and a signal are sent to the SCR Controller from the Phase Computer. The SCR Controller then signals the appropriate connected SCR to switch ON. This action reduces or increases the output voltage to the value required. When the voltage has been changed another signal is sent by the SCR Controller to switch OFF the SCR - and the whole process starts again. This process of changing the output voltage occur every 20 milliseconds.
